Carmen Rothwell (NYC)

Carmen Rothwell, bassist, is an active voice in the jazz and improvised music scene, with home bases in Seattle and New York City. A graduate of the University of Washington’s Jazz Studies program, she is known especially for her great sound and versatility. She has had the opportunity to perform with many notable artists including Billy Hart, Bill Frisell, Cuong Vu, Dave Douglas, George Garzone, Ted Poor, Wayne Horvitz, Pete Rende, Wally Shoup, Greg Sinibaldi, Taylor Ho Bynum, Marc Seales, Thomas Marriott, Miguel Zenon, and Wycliffe Gordon.

Idit Shner (Eugene, OR)

An active performer of both jazz and classical music, Idit Shner has played in various distinguished venues in the United States and abroad, such as The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and Lincoln Center in New York.

Currently Shner plays with her jazz quartet in Eugene and Portland, Oregon. Her latest project involves nursery rhymes and ancient melodies from the Jewish liturgy performed in a jazz setting. In September 2008, her first jazz CD, titled TUESDAY’S BLUES, was released on OA2 Records. TUESDAY’S BLUES got great reviews from JazzTimes, All Music Guide, and Jazz Review. Jazz festival performances include the Diet Coke Woman in Jazz Festival (NY), Bellayre Festival (NY), and New-Trier Jazz Festival (IL).

She works mainly with alternative techniques, including modified/prepared trombones and vocal-, text-, location-, and object-oriented performance, with a focus on the Gregorian chant tradition. She has: a bachelor of music from Cornish College of the Arts, and a cat named Hippo.
