Racer Session #328 | Tom Varner | June 12, 2016

This Sunday we're pleased to welcome the great jazz and creative music improviser Tom Varner to the Racer Sessions. Tom is well known as one of the world's great jazz french horn players and is a full-time faculty member at Cornish College of the Arts. This week he brings in a stellar cast of Cornish-assiciated musicians to explore sound textures with him. Read below for more thoughts on this week's performance:

"Tom Varner, Neil Welch, and the Cornish Improvisation Ensemble:  Varner, Welch, and eight more Cornish-associated improvisers will create a series of quickly-shifting sound textures. Sometimes the pieces' duration and instrumentation are predetermined, but the content never is. These players really have fun, too, with clarity, spikyness, and beauty. Sunday's tentet will be 3 strings, 4 brass, 2 reeds, and percussion, with Ruby Dunphy, Sierra Glessner, Jacob Neenan, Haley Freedlund, Amelia Couler, Troy Schiefelbein, Moe Weisner, and Andrew Forbes.  Fellow Cornish, Racer, and Seattle improvisers--feel free to join us for more pieces in the second set!"
